Welcome to Copley Inclusive Solutions (CIS), a Victoria based British Columbia company that has a proven track record in assisting individuals, corporations, and governments (local, provincial and federal) achieve their goals in implementing meaningful access to the built environment.
Why Universal Design?
Universal Design is the design and composition of an environment so that it can be accessed, understood and used to the greatest extent possible by all people regardless of their age, size, ability or disability.
Universal Design vs Accessibility
The challenge
According to Statistics Canada, one in five Canadian adults currently lives with a disability. With over 1000 people a day retiring in Canada, the growing population of older adults, seniors and the aging work force, this number is only going to grow.
Traditionally, the built environment has been designed for 18 to 55 year-old males, which is a barrier to more than just the population of people with disabilities. This highlights the need for a more inclusive approach to how the built environment is constructed.
Our Beliefs
Here at Copley Inclusive Solutions, we not only believe it is imperative to provide an inclusive built environment, but that providing universally designed spaces can be low-to-no cost as well as beautiful.
“Accessibility For All” is not a privilege. We believe it’s a human right.
Our Vision
CIS’s vision is to be the company of choice to support “access for all” concepts and best practices design elements in all phases of their delivery.
.
how we do it
CIS’s approach is based on educating individuals, businesses, and local provincial and federal government departments on the cost effectiveness of inclusion of universal design concepts in the upfront development and delivery process of projects, products and services.
This education takes the form of :
- Training package development and delivery,
- Design review participation for new projects
- On site evaluation of existing products, facilities and services
- Gap analysis reporting to highlighting deficiencies requiring rectification
- Design Book development to best fill identified gaps
- Additional steps required to achieve the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility certified Gold designation.
Our Mission
Copley Inclusive Solutions (CIS) is committed to making Canada a more accessible and universally designed country.
By providing meaningful “access” to public spaces, we provide a basic human right that there should be access for everyone.
By working towards creating adaptable, universally designed homes, we allow for people to age in place longer and lessen the strain on our already overwhelmed long term care and assisted living housing crisis.
We look forward to working with you and your team.
